About FFOF

FFOF is a general / entertainment discussion forum founded in May 2004 by the user Squall Leonhart: Gunblade Master (commonly abbreviated SLGM), then fully called Final Fantasy Omega Forums. At first, it was hosted by Advent Children.net Forums (abbreviated ACF), led by the aforementioned Squall. Back then, it was mainly focussed on the Final Fantasy game series, as many ACF spin-off forums were back then.

A while later, activity was at an all-time low, and SL:GM decided it was time for a fresh start. In secret, he constructed the New Omega, also hosted on InvisionFree. His initial plans were to simply close the 'old' FFOF and continue on the New. The FFOF core-member The Doctor (known back then as Zack_Soldier1stclass) however talked to SLGM about this matter, and convinced SLGM to hand the Old FFOF over to him instead of shutting it down, with success.

The new Omega was active only for a very short time; the core members of FFOF were unwilling to abandon the Old that soon, and, along with the help of YopY, another core member, he got FFOF back up to its original activity. The New Omega was shut down only a few months after its opening.

For the months and years thereafter, FFOF continued to stay active with peaks and drops, gradually moving away from being a Final Fantasy discussion forum and more turning into a general chat forum, mainly for the core members who got to know each other quite well.

In time, FFOF became a place where people could freely discuss issues arising on its inspiration forum, ACF, usually involving, from the members' point of view, poor administratorship or unjust handling of events. It became a refuge for people who were unfairly treated at ACF or who wanted to voice their opinion on ACF or its staff without the risk of being censored or banned.

In April of 2007, it was decided that it was time for the next step in FFOF history, with a move to their own domain and server software. The choice for vBulletin was quickly made, it being the market leader and, in many people's opinions, the best forum software out there. The domain name FFOF.nl and a vBulletin license were quickly bought, and only a few days later, the software was installed.

Along with the move was the issue of existing threads at the IVF FFOF; at the time of the move, the counters were up to 250.000 posts made in the then three years of its existence. There were two options: Leave FFOF as an archive, as it were, or move the posts to the new server. Due to IVF's policies, the staff of FFOF was unable to directly access FFOF's database, and as such were unable to move posts; it was possible to get a copy of the database, but this would cost a large amount of money. (According to the price list, it would cost $35,- to transfer a (mere) 10.000 post forum; for the 250.000 posts FFOF had, it would most likely be a multitude of that figure).

In any case, once most of the threads were transferred and put into place, the staff of FFOF decided that it was time to open. As such, in May of 2007, the new FFOF opened.

Currently, FFOF has dropped the Final Fantasy aspect, still however using FFOF as its name mainly due to its known name and reputation. It is mainly a general discussion forum, with an undertone of being a refuge for ACF. It has various sections for discussion of every topic, as well as an arcade, with more features planned for the near future.
