shortly before the film release i got around to purchasing and perusing the graphic novel of Watchmen.
What a story, the film is a decent adaptation but i'm irked by the change of ending (i can see why it had to happen for the film) but the characters are cool. my particular favourites are The Comedian and Dr. Manhattan. they seem to have gradually left their humanity behind, become dis-illusioned with the world and both end up having to be removed to ensure world peace. my only downer is Rorshach shouldn't have been killed, i watched a documentary with Alan Moore in and he says something like: he had to kill Rorschach off as someone that sick shouldn't be allowed to exist. not sure i agree. a sequel/prequel of him busting some ass would've been epic. also, the league of extraordinary gentlemen is pretty good, ignore the film though. discuss.

Rorschach was too committed to his ideals. If he survived, it would have fucked up everything the story was working towards.

I actually wrote the film off as total gash. Still not read the graphic novel. I would have liked to see more of the olde days of the Watchmen before society tossed them aside. Seeing the surge in prequels recently, maybe it'll happen.

You have to read it. Definitely worth your time.
I doubt it he'll do a prequel. If Alan Moore were to return to that story and start messing with it, fans would go apeshit. Besides, Moore doesn't seem to be the type to do that anyway. |

Moore wouldn't do a prequel but at this rate I wouldn't put it past DC to commission someone else to do one. There actually is a video game prequel that doesn't look all that bad. @Moore's other comics, make sure you read From Hell as well. Again, the film was utter bollocks and had nothing to do with the GN, but the actual GN is amazing. That said, the films of V for Vendetta and Watchmen were pretty good.

i played Watchmen: The end is nigh part 1 & 2. It's not that bad and goes into greater depths on events mentioned in the book (woodward and bernstein and underboss) and also goes into how much of an asshole The Comedian really was AND shows what instigated the break up of the Nite Owl/Rorschach partnership. it plays how you'd imagine Streets Of Rage to play if they remade it today.
i definitely want to read more Alan Moore GN's. started with LXG and found them to be pretty amazing. their take on War Of The Worlds was really impressive (and Hyde calling aliens "SKYWOGS!" is always hilarious in my book.

I assumed you'd read V for Vendetta. If you haven't, read it. It most directly addresses Moore's political philosophy (although you shouldn't make the mistake of assuming the title character is an author avatar just because they're both anarchists; the story is left deliberately open-ended with many of V's actions being presented as morally questionable).
I should play The End Is Nigh, probably.

Yeah, V is much more different in the GN than he is the film. It's more difficult to classify him as a hero or a villain.

haven't read V yet, seen the film and it's pretty cool. on my list of reads for damn sure. i did however enjoy the From Hell movie so if the book is better then happy days!
Dreiberg is my least favourite character. until he gets some pussy he's a total wimpy cunt.

I thought From Hell was a really good film. I thought I could just half take it in, but I ended up sitting up and paying attention, which always marks out a film in my esteem.
I still haven't read my Death Notes, and I've got an appointment with Steig Larssen after my exam next week. We need a thread of recommended reads. *goes to fixxx*

the film of From Hell kicked off my ripper-fetish. i read everything about the ripper murders twice over a six month period. sadly the freemason plot seems a bit fanciful and far fetched (but i always suspect that's what they want you to think).
i'm a fan of the original League of extraordinary gentlemen. i've just seen a 1969 edition being released but the main draw for me was the victoriana aspects so i'll probably sit it out.

the film was ok, the comics are better. the invisible man is a right dodgy cunt in the books, they catch him because a nearby all-girls school has had a number of "immaculate conceptions". he ends up screwing the league over so Jekyll fucks him in the arse and, apparently, it kills him. Jekyll is amazing in the books. anyone who refers to aliens as "Sky-Wog Bastards!" is win imo.

so...shall we discuss the just confirmed prequels. they're sans Alan Moore yet i still find myself interested in reading them. i just hope they don't fuck it up.

That interview is pretty great. Alan Moore interviews usually are.
My reaction to the prequel is "KILL IT WITH FIRE." However I will probably end up reading it out of curiosity, but I do not expect it to be much good.

i was really intrigued by the promise of a minutemen 1940's story, then i saw how it was being drawn and just gave up. they seem to be going for a cartoony/anime-ish look for it and it makes me sad.
